If you love trains, then the Niles Canyon Railway is the place for you. Not just for adults, the Niles Canyon Railway, a living history museum, is perfect for introducing your kids to the world of trains. Consisting of everything from steam engines, diesel engines, a variety of caboose, passenger cars and even motor cars, the Niles Canyon Railway has an impressive collection to keep you and your family busy throughout the day. Just hop onto a train and sit back and enjoy the ride, tickets are to be bought on the train itself as the conductor comes up to each passenger. The entire trip will last only about half an hour, and a round trip will take at least 1 hour and 15 minutes. You can purchase a round trip ticket and get off at Niles or Sunol and explore the town, catching a later train back. The staff is extremely friendly and is well trained to handle the rare equipment. Most of the historic railroad equipment in use has been rebuilt by the Pacific Locomotive Association, which has been collecting rare railway equipment since 1960. The most attractive feature of this one of a kind museum is the fact that you can rent a Caboose, which can seat up to 24 people or a Railbus which can seat up to 36 people. A great idea for a unique private party, a picnic ground and free parking are also available with your charter. Be sure to check out their train schedule from their website before booking, and do check out their gift shop which sells an assortment of railway related items.
