The Noir City Film Festival has been promoting and showcasing a variety of classic noir style films at the
Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco, CA. Established by the newly formed Noir Foundation the festival is relatively cheap in pricing and includes a complimentary cocktail and live jazz music, in addition to many screenings of noir films.
The selection of films spans a wide margin of time. Many dating back to the start of this unique expression of film in which dark shadows tell us something is amidst, where men in hats are generally villains, and the heroines are usually draped in bright light. The Muller's Noir Foundation has dedicated itself to restoring and rescuing this genre of film. Their end result and fruits of their labor are showcased at the Noir City Film Festival.
Any lover of this genre of film should not miss the opportunity to view these films in new prints on 35 mm film on a large screen with a live audience. See them as they were meant to be seen.
Every year the Noir City Film Festival showcases new films that they have restored. Films that have been played in the past include: The Prowler, The Grand Inquisitor, Hangover Square and Dangerous Crossing. Visit their official website for the films that will be playing at the next festival.
An additional bonus for die-hair noir film fans is the wide range of guest appearances that appear throughout the festivals 10 day run. Appearances include both actors and actresses from famous and newer noir films, along with directors, producers, and writers. These are all generally followed by question and answer sessions, which the audience can engage in.
