Annual Ethnic Dance Festival at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco, CA
The Ethnic Dance Festival is a great way to absorb the unique dance moves from a variety of locations. Performers all over the world come to San Francisco for a chance to take the stage at the festival.
Celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2008 the Ethnic Dance Festival has remained as popular as ever. The benchmark year will feature several amazing workshops that demonstrate techniques from all over the globe. These workshops are taught by experienced dancers and even Masters of the craft. The workshops are scheduled all throughout the month of June as they have been in years past and will more then likely be in the upcoming years.
Families are especially welcomed to Festival events. Friday Family Events teach children and their parents about the folklore and history associated with the dances that can be seen during the Festival.
Every week in the month of June will hold something different for Festival goers. The 2008 season started with Chinese performers celebrating the New Year. The first week saw Cambodian Classical Dance and performance pieces from India. These pieces are not just about dancing, but about story telling and art. Each society has their unique history and mythology told through dance. Praying for a good harvest, reenacting a historic battle, or hoping for good health can all be communicated through dance.
At the Annual Ethnic Dance Festival, guests will be able to see an entire world of expression and art in the span of one month. Each week of the festival offers something new.
