There are dozens of tours and cruises that give you a fun way to see the sights and sounds in the Bay Area above the water. Take some time on your getaway to San Francisco to explore the world below the surface of the water with a visit to the world renowned Aquarium of the Bay. The Aquarium of the Bay is located at Fisherman's Wharf, and is open daily except for Christmas.
The whole family will love exploring the underwater world on display at the Aquarium of the Bay. Here, you can walk through a unique environment that feature over 23,000 local and exotic species. The Under The Bay exhibit lets you get an inside look at the local animals that call the San Francisco Bay home as well as animals from the oceans across the globe, including Moon Jellies, Brown Sea Nettles, Anchovies, giant Sea Bass, Sea Stars, and more. This wonderful exhibit features two crystal tunnels that you can walk under for an encompassing experience and is home to over 20,000 animals.
Then step into an interactive and educational exhibit, Touch The Bay. Here, you can enjoy a hands-on experience with local and exotic animals. Some of the many animals you will find here include Blue Tongued Skinks, California King Snakes, Leopard Sharks, Bat Rays, and numerous others. This exhibit is designed to give you a look at how the animals' habits are being affecting by climate change, including hands-on environmental exhibits such as one that lets you see first-hand how solar power works.
Each day, the aquarium hosts special events. The events vary from day to day, but may include shark feedings, hands-on animal encounters, conversations with divers while they are immersed in the aquariums, and more. These special events are free with your admission. Special tickets may be purchased for other unique events such as the Behind the Scenes tours that are offered by the Aquarium.
You can visit the Aquarium of the Bay daily, except for Christmas. Hours of operation vary seasonally, so check with the aquarium before your visit. Free parking is located nearby at the Pier 39 parking lot.
